Compartmentalize your Building

Fenestra Group offers sealing and compartmentalization services for the building envelope aimed at reducing air leakage. Zero leakage solutions allow the reduction of energy costs and the increase of comfort.

Where does the air escape?

For air infiltration, there must be openings in the building envelope and an air pressure differential. These pressure differentials are caused by three main phenomena:

Wind: The wind creates positive pressure on the side facing the wind and negative pressures on the leeward side of the building creating air infiltration and exfiltration.

The walking effect or pull effect: in winter the outside air is attracted from the bottom of the building and rises as it warms up and expands. This air is warmed and escapes from the top of the building.

Mechanical forces : Ventilation systems, exhaust fans and other mechanical systems create pressure in the building. In the event of positive pressure in a building, the heat leaks to the outside. Otherwise, the cold gets inside, which leads, each time, to increased energy consumption.

Zero Leak work

The proposed work consists of waterproofing the windows, but also replacing the weatherstripping of the doors and sealing the outer envelope of the building without opening the walls. Typically, sealing is done:

Positive and negative pressure

In the event of positive pressure in a building, the heat leaks to the outside. Otherwise, the cold gets inside, which leads, each time, to increased energy consumption.

  • Roof wall joints
  • Power outlets
  • Roof access hatches
  • In the technical rooms

Compartmentalization

This technique consists, on the one hand, in sealing the openings of the floors and stairwells, in order to eliminate air movements between the floors. Compartmentalization reduces:

  • the energy bill;
  • the transfer of cooking odors and smoke from one apartment to another;
  • the spread of smoke in the event of a fire;
  • noise transmission;

Financial aid

Work to reduce air leakage is eligible for certain financial assistance from energy suppliers under energy efficiency programs. Fenestra Group is at all in hand to proceed with applications for financial aid, details of which can be found in the grants section.
